Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most often, answered directly and without qualification.

Pricing & payment

How much does a service call cost?

Our diagnostic fee is a flat rate quoted when you book — no surprises. If you approve the repair, we apply that fee toward the work. Maintenance plan members pay no diagnostic fee at all.

Will the final bill match the estimate?

Yes. We quote on a flat-rate basis, so the price does not change with the time taken. If we identify a second fault during the visit, we stop and obtain your approval before proceeding.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, including 0% promotional terms for qualified applicants. Applications take a few minutes, can be completed on site, and do not delay your installation date.

What payment methods do you take?

[List the methods you accept: cards, cheque, ACH, and financing partners. Clients frequently check this before calling.]

Scheduling & emergencies

Do you really answer after hours?

Yes. Calls outside business hours are routed to an on-call technician rather than to voicemail, and no overtime premium is applied to emergency work.

How soon can someone get here?

Same-day attendance is typical within our core service area, and emergencies take priority. During the first extreme weather of a season the schedule fills quickly, which is when agreement holders benefit from priority scheduling.

Will I be stuck waiting all day?

No. You are given a two-hour arrival window and a text message with your technician's name and photograph when they are en route. If we are running behind, we contact you.

Do I need to be home?

For diagnostics and installations, yes: we require access and will want to review the findings with you. For routine maintenance on an outdoor unit it is sometimes not necessary. Please ask when booking.

Repair vs. replace

Should I repair my system or replace it?

As a general rule, if the repair exceeds roughly one third of the cost of a new system and the unit is past 12 to 15 years old, replacement is usually the better investment. The assessment also depends on refrigerant type, efficiency, and the condition of the wider system. We present both figures and leave the decision with you. Our technicians are not paid commission.

How long should an HVAC system last?

Typically 15 to 20 years for a well-maintained furnace, 12 to 18 for air conditioning, and 10 to 15 for a heat pump operating year-round. Neglected systems fall at the lower end of each range.

My system uses R-22. Is that a problem?

Continuing to operate an R-22 system is permitted, but the refrigerant is no longer produced, so recharging a leaking system becomes costly. Where an older R-22 system is losing charge, replacement is usually the more economical option.

What size system do I need?

The size indicated by a load calculation, rather than the size of the existing unit. Oversized equipment short-cycles, controls humidity poorly, and wears prematurely. We perform a Manual J calculation on every replacement quotation.

Maintenance & upkeep

How often should I have my system serviced?

Twice a year: cooling in spring and heating in autumn. Most manufacturer warranties require documented annual maintenance, and the inspection typically pays for itself through retained efficiency and avoided failures.

How often should I change my filter?

Every one to three months for a standard 1-inch filter, and longer for deep media filters. Pets, allergies, and construction dust shorten that interval. A blocked filter is the single most common cause of the service calls we receive.

Is there anything I can check before calling?

Three checks resolve a significant proportion of calls: the thermostat batteries and mode setting, the air filter, and the breaker together with the furnace service switch, which resembles a light switch near the unit. If all three are in order, please call us.

What brands do you install and service?

We service all major brands and install several. We are not tied to a single manufacturer, so equipment is recommended on the basis of your property and budget.

The company

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Licence #HVAC-000000, fully insured, and EPA 608 certified for refrigerant handling. Certificates are available on request before work begins.

Who's coming to my house?

An employee of the company, not a subcontractor. Every technician is background-checked and NATE-certified, and you receive their name and photograph by text before they arrive.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Light commercial, yes: restaurants, offices, retail units, and small warehouses, including rooftop plant. Larger industrial systems fall outside our scope, and we will say so rather than take the work.

Still have a question?

Contact us and we will give you a direct answer, including where the answer is that no service call is required.
